The definitive guide of the less conventional superheroes

Ah ... superheroes. Those beings that acquire special skills while mystically arises a threat to which only they can face. Laser rays, excessive speed, superfort, fly, invisibility ... who has not dreamed of that? If you have not grown up with Spiderman, the X-Men or Smallville animation series, you have done it with the Batman of Tim Burton or the Superman of the 70s. The superheroes have between us decades, although right now they are in their apex of popularity.

In recent years this genre has flooded with proposals. Especially Marvel has managed to find an effective formula to portray this type of stories, and such is the success of this that they do not contemplate to take much from that idea. They have managed to create a web of interconnected stories that make each film a more chapter of a great superhero series. The other great franchise, DC Comics, has opted for other types of ideas, although success has been restrained and heterogeneous. Many ideas without a clear strategy. Some jewelry (James Gunn's suicide squad, Nolan or Joker's Batman saga) among many films that remain halfway (I will not mention any but surely some come to mind).

But ... Is there life beyond the new image of the commercial superhero? Even the most 'marvelita' may feel that all superheroes and their stories are too similar. That fed up for superheroes is increasingly widespread, proportionally to the increase in popularity of this new era of heroes cinema. But the answer is yes, there is life beyond the Avengers and the Justice League. More and more are the projects that seek to give this genre a thread. That is why we bring you some proposals for superhero series that actively seek to take off from the new stereotype.

The Boys

This is perhaps the best known series on the list. This adaptation of the homonym comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson rethinks the concept of the "superhero duty." Why were all over -population people to have a feeling of doing good? Under that premise and in a very thug way, the series explores to a group of "superheroes" that use their powers for their own benefit. And with no one who can punish them for it, they camp their wide making barbarities. The protagonists, mainly people who have been victims of that freedom that the super powers have, decide to join them to face them.

Do not expect the "Hero's Way", or enormous differences between good and evil. What you can expect is great parodies to the current superhero cinema, many laughs and scenes ... grotesque. I will not reveal you more so you can discover it for yourself, because it is a series that is worth seeing.

The third season of the series is currently broadcast on Amazon Prime Video and is expected to have a series for many years. So you are in time to get on the Butcher train ... or to the "El Patriota".

And if you are already a fan, you will freak out with this The Boys Parody Design.

The Umbrella Academy

In modern films all superheroes include in a matter of days the nature of their power and abilities. Strange, right? The explanation always arises shortly after acquiring their skills. Well, in the Umbrella academy it is a bit the other way around.

This series, adaptation of a series of Gerard Way comics, follows the unique Hargreves family. Singular because there are seven brothers and none of blood. Seven children adopted by the mysterious Reginald Hargreves, an eccentric billionaire who focuses on hosting children with super powers under his arm. During the series, the learning time is interspersed in the family mansion with the present, in which they are already adults. But as expected, an unknown threat will encourage you to overcome it together as "family" they are. It is a series with comedy touches but that knows how to manage tension very well. And tell strange stories, in the best of the senses. It is definitely a juicy option if you are looking for a different experience within the genre.

The series can be seen in Netflix and its third season has premiered on June 22. Enjoy!

Invincible

Why do the superheroes of other planets feel so attached to ours and decide to defend it? Thor, Superman, the Eternal ... arrive on our planet and become fond of the fragile human species. But it is not always the case ...

Invincible, which also comes from a homonym comic in this case written by Robert Kirkman, treats precisely that dilemma. The protagonist is the son of a human and Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on earth. When you get your powers, you will realize that perhaps your father is not as kind as he strives to appear.

It is a changing series. Its aesthetics and the first chapters are quite light although they subtle a huge mystery. Then it becomes epic and raw. The perfect mixture between a series of animated superheroes and a dark and delusional proposal on the fragility of our species. And so far we can read.

You can find the series on Amazon Prime Video and has confirmed a second season. We are eager to see how the adventure continues after that unexpected end.

ZERO

Superheroes always have epic threats. Mutants, aliens and magicians who always look more powerful than the protagonist but end up defeated with his ingenuity. But, are there no neighborhood heroes? As Spider-Man before facing 400 villains of 50 different multivers. Someone who helps grandparents to cross the passage of pedestrians, from a good tunda to the thieves and make sure the city is safe. Well, that's zero.

Zero is an Italian series in which Omar, a humble neighborhood teenager, is fully involved in what a priori looks like a band problem in his neighborhood. It is right there when he discovers that he has the ability to do invisible. Together with his group of friends, he will try to eradicate the problem, which will become more dangerous than it seemed.

Action, social problems and class and high doses of adolescents such as studies and the first love are the pillars of this series that is presented humbly but knowing how to give its special touch to this genre.

The series is from Netflix and if it ends up convincing, we can confirm that it will have a second season. Now we just have to wait ...

Watchmen

If we are clear about it, it is that the superhero genre is one of the lightest. As deep as your plot is, they cannot be compared to dramas from other genres. The heroes always win, save what they wanted to save and end up happy and eating partridges. Or that's what happens in most stories.

Watchmen collects the witness of the legendary Alan Moore and raises a faithful story to his style. Do not expect a story for all audiences or a clear difference between heroes and villains.

In this adaptation of the saga, the events of the city of Tulsa are narrated. In the universe, a racial massacre occurs in 2016 that leaves the police body without troops. While rebuilding the body, a law is dictated that forces the police to cover their face to avoid being the objective of white extremists. It is there when some guards (the denomination of superheroes in this universe) will join the cause since their activity is illegalized and are also forced to go covered to adjust the villains.

Sounds dense. And it is. But executed in a masterful way. The depth of the characters, their dubious morality and the themes discussed in the series make it more a thriller than a series of superheroes. But the mixture is impressive. And their Emmy nominations attest to it.

The series is in HBO Max and currently has a single season, although it is not canceled and the door is left open to resume it in the future.

Doom Patrol

Many heroes are marginalized in society until they acquire their powers and demonstrate the world that their actions are deserving of respect. It is logical, if they save your life it is worthy of recognizing it. But there are some heroes that are born in darkes ... and they will die Parias. As the components of the convicted patrol (in English, Doom Patrol).

Our protagonists are people to whom powers have only taken away more from reality. They are rejected by all. In all except for Chief, an ancient superhero who decides to shelter them and teach them to protect themselves from the outside world.

Strange powers, laughs and deep life experiences of the protagonists are their maximum exponents. The superheroes will learn to accept themselves and among them, and to control their abilities to deal with a serious problem. The series does not take itself seriously and that makes it very interesting for those who seek something radically different from that current that intends to make the heroes something deep and serious.

The series is in HBO Max and has 3 seasons and a fourth on the way. So you already have a plan.

These are just some of the options you can find on your TV if what you want is to flee from the monotony and the usual heroes. There are bets of all types, and for all audiences. In Fengo we also have t -shirts for all audiences. If you are a fan of Gotham's justice and dark stories, we have a broad catalog of Parodias in Batman T -shirts and Parodic Joker T -shirts. If you are more from Marvel, here are Spiderman parody t -shirts and Iron-Man Parody Designs.
